Privacy Policy

1. No accounts

Portlore doesn't have accounts. You don't need to sign up or give your name or email address to use it.

2. Your location

If you allow it, Portlore uses your device's location to find your nearest cruise port, show your position on the map, and estimate distances to places. Your precise device coordinates stay on your device; Portlore does not send them to its server or save them.

If you don't allow location access, Portlore shows distances from the cruise terminal instead.

3. What Portlore's servers receive

• The ports and places you look up.
• The stops in an itinerary, to calculate travel times between them. These requests contain the places' coordinates, not your location.
• Map tile requests, which indicate the areas and zoom levels you view, and nearby searches with the selected terminal's coordinates.
• Basic technical information found in server logs, such as IP address, browser, and request times.
• Problem reports you choose to send: your message, the port you were viewing, and an email address only if you add one for a reply. Reports are stored on Portlore's server and sent to a private Discord channel that only Nic Richard reads.

IP addresses are also kept briefly in memory to limit how often new port guides can be generated and problem reports can be sent.

4. Analytics

Portlore uses TraceTray to understand how people use the site. It records things like cursor movement, taps, scrolling, and which pages are visited, and stores a random visitor ID in your browser so visits can be grouped together. It doesn't record what you type or form entries, and it isn't used for advertising. Like other web services, TraceTray receives technical request information such as your IP address. 5. Third-party services

Map tiles and the Protomaps renderer are served by Portlore, not a third-party tile server. Your browser or app also loads port weather from Open-Meteo, photos from Pexels, fonts from Google Fonts, and Leaflet from cdnjs. These services receive your IP address and normal request information. Links to Google Maps open Google's own site or app.

Portlore's server uses Nominatim for nearby place searches and an OpenStreetMap-based routing service for walking routes, Pexels for photo searches, Google Places to check places and find their Maps IDs, and Google Gemini to help write guides. Anthropic may be used instead of Gemini when configured. These server-to-server requests contain port, place, search or route information, not your device's precise location or a visitor ID.

6. Cookies and storage

Portlore doesn't set cookies. It uses local storage in your browser or app for the port list, the last ten guides opened, selected terminals, and sail-away reminder preferences. This lets you reopen saved guides without a connection; maps and photos still need one. TraceTray also stores its random visitor ID as described above.

In the Android app, enabled sail-away reminders are scheduled on your device with notification permissions. You can remove locally saved information by clearing site data in your browser or app storage in Android settings.

7. Data retention

Server logs are kept for a limited time for security and troubleshooting. Problem reports are kept until they're dealt with; email support@portlore.com to have one deleted sooner. Portlore doesn't build profiles of its visitors or sell information.

8. Children

Portlore is not directed at children under 13.

9. Changes to this policy

Portlore may update this policy as the product changes. The latest version will always be posted on this page.
